Bringing a dog from the UK to Germany: rules 2026
Post-Brexit, the UK remains on the EU's approved country list (Annex II), so bringing a dog from the UK to Germany requires no rabies titer test β just a short, manageable checklist.
From the origin country. From the UK: no titer test. The UK is on the EU's list of approved countries (Annex II), so a rabies titer test is not required. You need an ISO microchip, a valid rabies vaccination (21-day wait), and an EU Animal Health Certificate issued by a UK Official Veterinarian (valid 10 days to entry). A Great Britain Pet Health Certificate works for most EU ports.
Destination requirements
- ISO 11784/11785 microchip β before the rabies vaccination.
- Rabies vaccination β pet β₯12 weeks old; the vaccination date must not be earlier than the microchip date; then wait β₯21 days after the primary vaccination.
- Rabies titer test β required ONLY from an βunlistedβ country (not needed from the EU or listed countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan). Blood β₯30 days after vaccination and β₯90 days (3 months) before the certificate; β₯0.5 IU/ml; EU-approved laboratory.
- Certificate β from a non-EU country: an EU Animal Health Certificate (Annex III, Reg. (EU) 2026/705) endorsed by the exporting countryβs authority (in the USA, USDA APHIS), valid 10 days to entry. From the EU / on return: the EU pet passport.
- Tapeworm treatment β not required for mainland Germany.
- Breed import ban β federal law (HundVerbrEinfG Β§2) bans the import and transit of: Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bullterrier, Bull Terrier and their crosses. Individual federal states may add keeping rules (verify by state).
- Quarantine β none if everything is met. Puppies under 15 weeks are not admitted; from an unlisted country the process effectively takes ~7 months due to the timelines.

FAQ
Do I need a rabies titer test from the UK to Germany?
No. The UK is on the EU approved list, so no titer test is required β just microchip, rabies vaccination, and a UK Official Vet-issued EU Animal Health Certificate.
How long before travel should I prepare?
Allow 3β4 weeks: the rabies vaccine needs a 21-day wait, and the EU certificate is valid only 10 days, so book the vet close to your departure date.
Is there quarantine in Germany?
No quarantine when your paperwork is complete and correct.
